Smile and Ride a Bike

By Bryan | Published: 22nd Dec, 2019

Well, it's been a while. It feels like I haven't had me-time for a long while nor some downtime to write — which is the lesser evil. I won't brag about it, it's been a tough year. And it feels like I'm starting to forget how to smile. Or to write.

So I rode a bike.

Why? They say you never forget how to ride a bike. I remember when I was a kid, I was so eager to learn how to do it. I was a bit show off. I was determined. Got me some bruises and scars but it paid off. That same day, I finished off cycling merrily around the house.

It made me happy.

Fact: Cycling makes you happy (and healthy). I did catch a moment of myself smiling. So I guess it does make one happy. It made me happy. It made me remember. It made me write again.

For me, running makes me happy. It clears my mind, gives me energy and makes me think clearer. Whenever I am down, I try to surround myself with the things I love: a good book, I go running, play a video game I love (Witcher 3, Journey, etc), watch funny videos or comedies, etc.

Hey, Nathan! I'm not a runner but I wanna try and sign up for a half marathon this summer. I also enjoy walking and hiking. Simple things that make me physically happy. Surround yourself with things you love — that's a yes!

We've all had times when smiling seemed to elude us. That doesn't mean we shouldn't aim to do things that make us happy.

Absolutely agree, Shey! One thing I'd like to start as part of my 2020 goal is to do more things for myself; something I often neglect. A happiness list, if you may.

I used to love biking on trails and off-road in the local parks around here. I started doing it less and less as I got older. Now that I am working full-time and sometimes up to 50 hours a week, I just don’t have the energy for it but I am hoping, if things go to plan, I will be launching my own online business this year and I will be able to get back to me and feeling good again. I want to get back on my bike and feel the freedom of exploring again.

Have you been to cycling?
